  Baptism Questions Question

  again, against my therapist's suggestion, i got into a doctrinal discussion with mr. witness.

  i told him i'd been coming here and he doesn't like it (too bad, so sad).

  anyway, i told him part of it was that i was keeping up with the $ociety's teachings.

  JGnat, I don't set out to confront him, it just happens. He asked me why I came to JWD and I said "for support, to read others' experiences, and to keep up on the latest teachings (without having to read all the crap in his magazines)". He made some comment about something doctrinal (I can't remember what...I must have blocked it out ) and we fell down the slippery slope into JW land. I just can't let it go when he makes dumb comments about stuff that he's read that is so blatantly incorrect. I really have to work on just letting it go!

  Thanks for the link, I haven't looked at it yet but am going there right now.

  Hi! Again, against my therapist's suggestion, I got into a doctrinal discussion with Mr. Witness. I told him I'd been coming here and he doesn't like it (too bad, so sad). Anyway, I told him part of it was that I was keeping up with the $ociety's teachings. He told me that I should be less worried about the WTBTS because I wasn't married to the WT. It occured to me later that no, I'm not married to the WTBTS but he IS! I want to prove it to him by using the baptism questions...does anyone have a copy to post.

  I'm leaving for the day...I eagerly look forward to any comments that come my way. Thanks in advance!

  Good topic OTWO! I am always tempted to say "how was your meeting" or upon his returning from service "did you recruit anyone today?". I never do, though, because he would either see me as being sarcastic or get into a huge discussion of some stupid topic covered at the meeting that I couldn't let slide. I prefer to be sound asleep when he gets in on Tues & Thurs! And on the weekend, I'm too busy with the kids or gone when he gets home. I am guilty of avoidance, I guess...but to keep the peace, you sometimes do what you have to...

  Do you think JW's grow and mature as they age?

  i ask because my ex, who is still a jw and my 9 year old's dad (hence the still knowing him part) hardley seems to change at all over the years.

  i do know he is now an elder....and he doesn't have time for much fun.

  (they are usually broke and busy with meetings, ect.

  My JW might think he's grown up and mature, but really, he's got the mentality of a 15-year-old. It's so hard to discuss things with him because when I use big words , he gets agitated and starts attacking (tho' that might just be a JW knee-jerk response since we're usually discussing JW doctrine...).

  WTB&TS in Germany Gets Tithes...

  it appears according to governmental regulations in germany allow for the fleecing of its adhereants, directly thru levies and tithes, taken from thier members wallets via the government, without having to ask, anymore.

  I think there is a misunderstanding. The way I read it, having the corp status allows the organization/church to have funds withheld from your paycheck if that is what they do...most Catholics tithe, so they might take advantage of the service...and the state would handle the administration of the money and send it to the organization/church. Seems like you would have to give permission for the withholding. Do JW's even believe in tihing?

  in my own case, i have let my wife take the kids to the meetings and on the field service.

  i have issues with even this but for peace sake, i have let her do it without complaining.

  but over what matters have you put your foot down with your spouse?

  I never was a JW, but I have put my foot down on meetings (my girls only attend when I am away on business and that is only because Mr. Witness refuses to take them to my mom's), they will NEVER go in service, and I have asked him not to use WT literature when he discusses the bible with my 11-year-old (who is not his biologically). I do not know what will happen as my 2-year-old (his biologically) gets older, though, since he's pretty gung-ho. Good Luck!

  Does this issue also state that there's no mythology in the Bible? Mr. Witness tried to argue these points with me a few weeks ago. I laughed and said "You have to be kidding".

  Looking for specific WT quotes...input appreciated!

  hey guys, i've looked in the "best of" section and elsewhere, and i've found a few good ones, but i'm working on a project where i need quotes from literature where the gb/fds are said to be the "spokesman of god", "divine channel", and other things of that sort.

  any help would be most appreciated.

  Has anyone here tried Hoodia?

  i'm looking into trying hoodia because i need to lose about 60lbs to get to my goal.

  i exercise just about every day.

  my daughter and i walk on the trail that is behind my apartment.

  I'd stay away from ebay. A person I worked with wanted to get a points counter off of ebay and it ended up that she would have paid less to go to a meeting and get the stuff! What I did was go to a couple meetings, get the stuff, get an idea of how it works, then quit. You get to a point where you can ballpark the points just from looking at the label.
